Heroes Reborn Gets A Vague New Plot Synopsis

Looking back, it's hard to remember the kind of phenomenon that Heroes became when it debuted in 2006. NBC's series about ordinary people who found out they had superpowers was regarded as "the next Lost," though its praises didn't last for long. As fun, engaging, and well thought out as the first season was, the show fumbled big time in the years after, dragging along for three more seasons before being mercifully cancelled in 2010.

Looking back, it’s hard to remember the kind of phenomenon that Heroes became when it debuted in 2006. NBC’s series about ordinary people who found out they had superpowers was regarded as “the next Lost,” though its praises didn’t last for long. As fun, engaging, and well thought out as the first season was, the show fumbled big time in the years after, dragging along for three more seasons before being mercifully cancelled in 2010.

Heroes seemed destined to go down in the history books as a missed opportunity, a show that debuted strong but ended in disappointment. However, NBC isn’t intent on letting that happen, and announced back in February that a 13-episode miniseries called Heroes Reborn will arrive in 2015.

We haven’t gotten very many details on the miniseries, but we do know that it will feature a new group of characters and somehow be a continuation of the original show. This weekend, NBC released a new synopsis which unfortunately, is more frustratingly vague than the minor details we already knew.

The saga behind the 2006 breakout series Heroes will continue as creator Tim Kring returns to the fold and develops new layers to his original superhero concept. This highly anticipated 13-episode miniseries will reconnect with the basic elements of the show’s first season where ordinary people were waking up to the fact that they had extraordinary abilities. This series will be preceded by a new digital series that will introduce audiences to the new characters and storylines that will take the Heroes phenomenon to new places.

So, basically, Hereos Reborn will just be the first season all over again, with new characters. That’s okay with me. Perhaps the network has learned from their mistakes and are going back to the drawing board on this one. They’ve already brought back series creator Tim Kring, which is a great step in the right direction.
