The first clip from true story crime biopic, Foxcatcher, has arrived online – quite a while after the teaser trailer debuted.

When the release date of a much-anticipated film is pushed back (ahem, we’re looking at you Batman vs. Superman) a number of reasons are often cited as to why. More space is required for creativity to flourish, a conflicting schedule, a large wodge of the finished product has been lost (ahem, Toy Story 2.) For director Bennett Miller (Capote, Moneyball) though, it was all down to the editing process.

Sony Pictures Classics announced a while back that the flick’s original fall 2013 release was to be delayed roughly 12 months, immediately after dropping the first trailer. Scheduled to premiere in competition at Cannes next week, Foxcatcher is now on the slate for a wide North American release later this year.

Turns out Miller’s unique approach to the cut job was responsible, which ain’t always a suffering blow. He told Screen Daily:

“It’s been a huge editing process. These films are not made in the normal way. I don’t work from a screenplay. They’re organised in an outline and the scenes we decide to shoot we explore in rehearsal and again on the day with the actors. It makes for a much more complicated editing process.”

Starring Channing Tatum and a heavily-made up Steve Carell, the film centres around the bizarre real-life tale of two Olympic wrestling brothers, who wind up involved with the affluent, nutty John Du Pont, heir of the duPont Chemical fortune. The first trailer, which dropped way back in September of last year, is now fleshed out with today’s clip, which delves into the tenuous relationship between Tatum and Carell’s characters. You can check it out below.

Mark Ruffalo, Vanessa Redgrave, Sienna Miller and Anthony Michael Hall co-star in Foxcatcher, which is now scheduled for release on November 14th.
