Mojang has announced that they will be bringing Minecraft to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in August. The popular sandbox title will be available for $20, with the Vita edition featuring Cross-Buy support.
The biggest improvement coming with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Minecraft is that the title will support larger worlds than we saw with previous console iterations. Owners of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version will also be able to import their saved data over to these new editions. However, you will not be able to transfer saves from the current-gen versions to the older versions, due to the technical issues brought on by the increased world size.
If you already own a copy of Minecraft for the PS3 or Xbox 360 and want to upgrade to a PS4 or Xbox One copy of the title, it will only cost $5. However, while all of the DLC from the PS3 edition will transfer over to the Vita edition, the same can’t be said for every skin and texture pack being available for the PS4 and Xbox One, due to licensing issues.
While Minecraft has never exactly been a favorite of mine, I do understand why the title has become such a force in the gaming industry. Who wouldn’t want their own personal sandbox to play around in? I do wish that more companies would follow Mojang’s lead, though, and feature cheap upgrades from last-gen to this current generation of consoles.Being able to upgrade for only $5 is quite simply a steal.
