Simon Kinberg Explains The X-Men: Days Of Future Past Post-Credits Scene

By now, or very shortly, many people will be wondering just what the hell happened during the post-credits scene of X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Of course, if you haven’t yet seen the film, you might want to bookmark this page and come back later. If you have seen it though, read on to hear what the film’s writer, Simon Kinberg, has to say about it.

Just to recap, at the end of the credits we flashback to Ancient Egypt, where a young mutant is building pyramids with his powers. Below him, we see a crowd of worshippers chanting “En Sabah Nur.” The camera then pans around to show the mutant’s face. After a very brief glimpse, the scene cuts to black.

So, firstly, what does it all mean? Well, the next film in the series will be titled X-Men: Apocalypse and will arrive on May 27th, 2016. The titular Apocalypse is an immortal supervillain from the comics who, according to Wikipedia, was born 5,000 years ago. The most interesting part though is that he was originally named “En Sabah Nur,” meaning that the young boy in the post-credits scene is indeed Apocalypse.

Now, as for the context of the scene, that’s still a little unclear. We know that X-Men: Apocalypse will take place in the 1980s and focus on the younger versions of the characters, like First Class did, but we’re not sure how Apocalypse himself will factor into things.

In a recent interview with IGN, Simon Kinberg weighed in on the scene and confirmed that the young boy is Apocalypse, and that the next film will not take place in Ancient Egypt.

“The post-credit sequence is a tease into what will be the Apocalypse movie. Now the Apocalypse you see – that young boy – may not be the actor who plays the character in our movie,” Kinberg explains. “It’s a deep back story glimpse into the character, but our movie doesn’t take place in ancient Egypt and will likely not star a young boy Apocalypse.”
