Major plot leaks for dino-sequel Jurassic World have been coming thick and fast recently. Living in an era wherein a trip to the cinema means you’ve likely already been exposed to spoilers in the trailer, production photos, clips and interviews means we definitely don’t need anything else to convince us to see the movie. Still, that doesn’t stop some roving spoiler fiends. One of whom revealed last week the basic dino roster for Jurassic World via a photo of a visitor’s map of Isla Nublar, the park from the original 1993 flick.

Today, Slash Film put the record straight by chatting with director Colin Trevorrow, who, while not happy about the leaks, has us salivating at the prospect of the movie. Before reading some choice snippets from their chat, we have to warn you: THERE BE SPOILERS.

When asked if the rumours about another park were correct:

Yes. Jurassic World takes place in a fully functional park on Isla Nublar. It sees more than 20,000 visitors every day. You arrive by ferry from Costa Rica. It has elements of a biological preserve, a safari, a zoo, and a theme park. There is a luxury resort with hotels, restaurants, nightlife and a golf course. And there are dinosaurs. Real ones. You can get closer to them than you ever imagined possible. It’s the realization of John Hammond’s dream, and I think you’ll want to go there.

He then goes on to reveal the film is set 22 years after the events of the first Jurassic Park. Together with co-writer Derek Connolly, one of their main intentions for the script was to address society’s blase relationship with emerging technologies and how:

“…we’ve become numb to the scientific miracles around us. We take so much for granted. Those two ideas felt like they could work together. What if, despite previous disasters, they built a new biological preserve where you could see dinosaurs walk the earth…and what if people were already kind of over it? We imagined a teenager texting his girlfriend with his back to a T-Rex behind protective glass. For us, that image captured the way much of the audience feels about the movies themselves. “We’ve seen CG dinosaurs. What else you got?” Next year, you’ll see our answer.”

Addressing the alleged “good” vs. “bad” dinosaur notions spread over the web as of late, he said:

There’s no such thing as good or bad dinosaurs. There are predators and prey. The T-Rex in Jurassic Park took human lives, and saved them. No one interpreted her as good or bad. This film is about our relationship with animals, how we react to the threat they pose to our dominance on earth as a species. We hunt them, we cage them in zoos, we admire them from afar and we try to assert control over them.

Before getting down to what you all wanted to know. Will there be new dinosaurs?

“Yes, there will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists. The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.”

All in all, that’s a lot of brand new information amidst the confirmation of potential clickbait. What’s a little sad about today’s interview though is the hints Trevorrow drops throughout, showing his dismay at having to reveal everything more than A YEAR in advance. We’ve got to agree, especially as this is all being exposed before a teaser, a trailer, marketing posters, and so on. Still, we’re massively excited at the idea of… well, more dinosaurs causing havoc.

Jurassic World opens for business on June 12th, 2015.
