Hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement of Homefront: The Revolution, Crysis developer Crytek has revealed its second all-new game in as many days, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age.

Rooted in a medieval setting, the third-person title will take players to the late 1800s where horrific monsters run amok, all vying to be, well, hunted. From the above teaser trailer, though, it appears as though players will have ample enemies to go toe-to-toe with, including foreboding witches, demons and everyone’s favourite nemesis, zombies.

In order to gauge the general concept of the new IP, the studio has published the following synopsis:

“As the surprises come thick and fast, the terror of knowing that one of the game’s grueling boss battles could be just around the corner will keep everyone’s pulses pounding. Defeating bosses will require close collaboration between hunters as they attempt to figure out and take down some truly terrifying monsters.”

Channeling the survival aspects of Valve’s Left 4 Dead series, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age will also incorporate a procedurally generated mechanic — aptly described as a “special generation system” — which ensures that every environment and villain is wholly original. At this time, the game is pegged for release on PC and consoles, though the studio hasn’t confirmed which just yet.

Nevertheless, we can expect a closed beta for the game to take place by the end of the year, and you can even toss your name into the hat through the studio’s website. Speaking of which, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age will be headed up Darksiders alumni, who formed Crytek USA Corp. following the closure of THQ.

In truth, the rapid decline of split-screen integration in modern games has been a bitter pill to swallow, but with upcoming, co-op focused titles such as Evolve, Fable Legends and now Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, it appears online four player companionship is very much in vogue.
