Step Up All In Shifts From July 25th To August 8th

For those of you who are right now saying, "There's another Step Up movie coming?"....I hear you. Out of the many franchises that have gone on for far too long, the Step Up series is close to the top for me. Regardless, this summer will see the release of Step Up All In, which finds stars from past films coming together to compete in a Las Vegas tournament.

For those of you who are right now saying, “There’s another Step Up movie coming?”….I hear you. Out of the many franchises that have gone on for far too long, the Step Up series is close to the top for me. Regardless, this summer will see the release of Step Up All In, which finds stars from past films coming together to compete in a Las Vegas tournament.

However, fans will have to wait a little longer than they expected to see the fifth entry in the series. Due to the lack of publicity Summit Entertainment has given the film, in addition to just how crowded the summer movie schedule is, the studio has decided to move Step Up All In back two weeks, from July 25th to August 8th. Curiously, this is the exact opposite of the schedule change recently made by Lucy.

If the film had gone ahead with its July release date, it would have opened against Brett Ratner’s Hercules, which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the Greek hero of myth; Luc Besson’s Lucy, in which Scarlett Johansson plays a woman who gains superhuman powers after an experimental drug sewn into her stomach by nasty drug traffickers leaks into her system; and Magic in the Moonlight, a 1920s-set romantic comedy from Woody Allen, starring Colin Firth and Emma Stone. That’s already such a crowded week that I wouldn’t be surprised if another one of those three films flinched (most likely Hercules).

Now, Step Up All In will have to contend with the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, a Helen Mirren drama called The Hundred-Foot Journey and found-footage disaster pic Into the Storm. The move is probably a smart decision by Summit; Step Up All In has a pretty niche audience, and the other offerings on August 8th will probably steal less of that audience than the double threat of female-powered Lucy and rom-com Magic in the Moonlight would have.

Tell us, are you at all interested in returning to this franchise?
