This morning during their E3 2014 press conference, Microsoft announced that a new Crackdown game was being developed for the Xbox One. With franchise creator David Jones at the helm, this is definitely worth getting excited about.

Though details are scare, a brief trailer was shown off that gave us a taste of some wacky looking action, colourful neon visuals and a bit of dark humor. Of course, we don’t get any actual gameplay footage here, but what’s on display is definitely enough to make me want more. In addition to the trailer, Microsoft also offered the following description, which is most definitely tantalizing:

“This is a new iteration of the groundbreaking open-world action series that features a whole new campaign — fully playable in co-op — and   uses Xbox Live to power a city that isn’t just an exciting place to play, but is a part of your destructive arsenal.”

First released back in 2007, the original Crackdown is one of my favorite games of all-time, and though its sequel left a bit to be desired, this third entry into the series should be a return to form seeing as Jones is back on board (Crackdown 2 was handed off to another development team). If anything, the game’s open-world nature should benefit tremendously from the power of the Xbox One, which will likely allow us to cause more mayhem than ever before.

The new Crackdown will be an Xbox One exclusive and will likely launch in 2015.
