Josh Brolin Joins Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar!

It's been a few years since Josh Brolin joined the Coens' gang, putting in an excellent turn as one of the main characters in No Country For Old Men and True Grit. Now The Wrap reports that the actor has signed on to appear in their next film, Hail, Caesar!

It’s been a few years since Josh Brolin joined the Coen brothers cast of usual suspects, scoring excellent turns in both No Country For Old Men and True Grit, but it looks like the actor is finally going for his Coen trifecta as The Wrap is reporting that Brolin has signed on to appear in their next film, Hail, Caesar!

Hail, Caesar! already features Coen go-to guy George Clooney, presumably playing the lead role as Eddie Mannix, a fixer who works for the Hollywood studios of the 1950s to protect stars from scandals. Given that the Coens have dealt with that time period several times, including in their intense and darkly funny comedy Barton Fink, we can hope for some pitch black humor and possible nastiness in this story. The film is being directed by the Coens from their own script, as per usual.

It is not yet clear what part Josh Brolin will be playing for Hail, Caesar!, although I somewhat suspect that he’ll be a scandalous star in need of George Clooney’s help. Whatever role they have set out for him, Hail, Caesar! is shaping up to be yet another enjoyable Coen vehicle. Brolin and Clooney are the only names that have been announced for the film as yet, but that’s already a good indication of what the Coens have in store.

Meanwhile, Brolin is going to be busy voicing Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and has recently signed on to star in Sicario alongside Emily Blunt. Looks like he’s got his work cut out for him over the next few years – something I’m certain he’s very happy about.

We’ll keep an eye on casting news for Hail, Caesar! and let you know as soon as more information becomes available.
