James Brolin Will Play Tina Fey And Amy Poehler’s Dad In The Nest

When comediennes Amy Poehler and Tina Fey blew the roof off the Golden Globes (two years in a row), the general sentiment circulating through Hollywood was, "Somebody get these two a movie - stat!" Of course, Fey was coming off 30 Rock at the time and had some very promising movie roles on her plate, and Poehler was starring in Parks & Recreation, so the real challenge was to find a time when the pair had mutual openings in their schedules and would be willing to team up on the big screen.

When comediennes Amy Poehler and Tina Fey blew the roof off the Golden Globes (two years in a row), the general sentiment circulating through Hollywood was, “Somebody get these two a movie – stat!” Of course, Fey was coming off 30 Rock at the time and had some very promising movie roles on her plate, and Poehler was starring in Parks & Recreation, so the real challenge was to find a time when the pair had mutual openings in their schedules and would be willing to team up on the big screen.

As it turns out, Universal was the lucky studio that ended up landing Fey and Poehler – for a comedy called The Nest, about two sisters who throw one last rager before their parents’ house is sold. Casting has been underway for the film for the past few weeks, and we learned recently that Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors) had landed the role of a neighbor who’ll serve as Poehler’s love interest. Now, another key role has been cast, as Deadline is reporting that James Brolin has come aboard in the role of the sisters’ father.

Though the premise would suggest that Brolin’s role is small, word of the actor’s involvement is still exciting. He’s had an illustrious career both in film and television, and is perhaps best known for his roles in Catch Me If You Can, Pensacola: Wings of Gold, Marcus Welby, M.D., and Hotel. Recently, Brolin wrapped Chilean miner drama The 33 and David O. Russell’s dramatic comedy Nailed. That such a wildly talented and versatile actor will be joining The Nest‘s already-mighty cast is truly great news.

Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is directing The Nest from an original script by Saturday Night Live writer Paula Pell. The film is expected to land in theaters on December 18th, 2015.
