We were already hugely excited to see Golden Globes co-hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey share the screen in Universal’s red-hot comedy The Nest, and now we have cause to be even more psyched about the movie, with news that Bridesmaids actress Maya Rudolph has joined the cast.

The Nest centers on two sisters (Poehler and Fey) who decide to throw one last rager in their childhood home before it’s sold. The party soon gets out of control and turns into a cathartic experience for a bunch of ground-down adults. With Rudolph’s casting, the film is shaping up to be even more of a Saturday Night Live reunion than it already was. SNL scribe Paula Pell penned the script, and both Fey and Poehler were members of that long-enduring sketch comedy show for years alongside Rudolph. None of them are regular cast members on SNL any more though, so it’s exciting that now they will have a chance to trade quips once again.

Rudolph will shoot The Nest this month in New York. Neighbors actor Ike Barinholtz also recently joined the cast as a neighbor of the sisters and a love interest for Poehler’s character, and veteran actor James Brolin is set to play the father of the two sisters. Yesterday, Greta Lee (Girls) also landed the supporting role of Hae Won, a young mother who by chance receives a pity invite to the bash. Additional casting news is expected soon, but the film is also poised to include a host of unannounced celebrity cameos.

Jason Moore, who previously helmed Universal’s collegiate a capella comedy Pitch Perfect, is sitting in the director’s chair on this project. We’re very excited for The Nest, given its crazily talented cast. Poehler and Fey killed it as Golden Globe co-hosts two years in a row, and they’ve quickly become recognized as two of the most powerful celebrity gal pals in Hollywood. That they’ll have extra support in The Nest in the form of Rudolph just makes prospects for the film that much rosier.

The Nest is expected to hit theaters on December 18th, 2015 (alongside Star Wars: Episode VII – gulp).
