EXCLUSIVE: Frank Grillo Officially Cast In The Raid: Redemption Remake

While a short wish-list was released a little while ago concerning who would be kicking ass in Patrick Hughes' remake of The Raid: Redemption, we now have confirmation that one of those names has officially been signed. While talking to Frank Grillo today about his new movie The Purge: Anarchy, the actor nonchalantly dropped the fact that he's going to appear in the film.

While a short wish-list was released a little while ago concerning who would be kicking ass in Patrick Hughes’ remake of The Raid: Redemption, we now have confirmation that one of those names has officially been signed. While talking to Frank Grillo today about his new movie The Purge: Anarchy, the actor nonchalantly dropped the fact that he’s going to appear in the Hughes’ upcoming film.

Frank Grillo: What people don’t know is that I’m a blackbelt in jujitsu, which I’ve been for 20 years, and I’ve been boxing since I’ve been 15 years old – those are things that come natural to me. Believe it or not, I just got hired to do [the remake of] The Raid…I loved [the original]…we’ve got to do this justice. It’s a fanboy favorite.

In other news, we recently found out that filming was delayed from this September until the first quarter of 2015. When I asked Grillo about this, he confirmed that shooting will in fact start in January, so it looks like they want to get the ball rolling as soon as possible on this one. Patrick Hughes has quite the task ahead of him, but from what I could tell, Grillo seemed extremely excited about the director’s enthusiastic admiration for Gareth Evans’ original material.

Frank Grillo has been receiving a ton of attention lately, especially since his explosive turn as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier for Marvel. It’s great to see such a talented actor getting breaks after working his way through Hollywood for years. It’s hard to believe that this man was once a soap opera star, and now he’ll be participating in one of the biggest remakes in recent memory.
