Brad Pitt’s Fury Heading For Reshoots In July

Is there trouble on the Eastern Front? If Showbiz 411 is to be believed, Brad Pitt’s World War II epic Fury is in a bind with certain scenes and will begin reshoots on July 1st in Los Angeles. Apparently, casting is now underway for two actors to play SS officers who will have a key role in the new scenes. Does this mean that Fury will have trouble making its November release date?

I’m taking an optimistic approach to this news, considering that a lot of major films build reshoots into their schedules just in case they’re necessary. Besides, shooting in Los Angeles suggests that all the big scenes are completed, and that what director David Ayer is looking to add is just a few small scenes that will work to improve the movie as a whole. It’s not even clear whether the extra footage will include Pitt, or whether the scenes will involve, say, SS officers responding to news that the tank unit at Fury‘s center is moving closer to the heart of Germany on its secretive mission.

Regardless of the reshoots, I’m excited to see Fury when it hopefully emerges in November. Ayer is a skilled director who specializes in intense, thrill-a-minute stories (see End of Watch, one of the finest and most devastating cop dramas in the history of the genre). He’s also working with a brilliant cast on Fury, which includes Logan Lerman, Michael Pena, Jon Bernthal and Jason Isaacs.

If the story, also by Ayer, turns out to be a strong one, Fury could easily become a major awards contender this fall, so hopefully reshoots go smoothly and the film can remain on track for its previously set release. It’s currently primed to open November 14th.

FURY is set at the very end of World War II, in April 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theater, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.
