Lisa Cholodenko May Be Going From ‘All Right’ To A ‘Bad Day’

After the huge success of the clever, real and hilarious The Kids Are All Right, director Lisa Cholodenko is on to her next project, an adaptation of the classic children’s book, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” by Judith Viorst.

Variety reports that Cholodenko is currently in negotiations for the project which was picked up last summer by Shawn Levy to produce and develop via his 21 Laps company.

The script is being penned by Rob Lieber and is a comedy that “revolves around family members collectively enduring the worst day of their lives. In the book, the central character, Alexander’s day goes from bad to worse after he wakes up with gum in his hair. The young boy gets so frustrated that by bedtime, he threatens to move to Australia.”

This film could go either way as sometimes kid’s books are adapted in very clever and heartwarming ways, such as with Fantastic Mr. Fox, or they can fall short of your beloved childhood memories of the stories, such as in cases like Where The Wild Things Are. If the film is a success, though, there are already two potential sequels lined up: “Alexander, Who’s Not (Do You Hear Me? I Mean It!) Going To Move” and “Alexander Who Used To Be Rich Last Sunday.”
