Morena Baccarin Will Lend Her Voice To Animated Horror Flick Malevolent

Animated horror films are few and far between, but occasionally someone gets a great idea for one - see Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust - that makes us remember the genre can be more than just Alvin And the Chipmunks Meet whichever movie monster happens to need a paycheck at the time. It's too early to say whether Malevolent is going to be one of those diamonds in the rough - but initial information about the pic is promising.

Animated horror films are few and far between, but occasionally someone gets a great idea for one – see Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust – that makes us remember the genre can be more than just Alvin And the Chipmunks Meet whichever movie monster happens to need a paycheck at the time. It’s too early to say whether Malevolent is going to be one of those diamonds in the rough – but initial information about the pic is promising.

Today, we’ve learned that Homeland actress Morena Baccarin has signed on to lend her voice to the lead villain in the film. Malevolent centers on a “young woman (Dani Lennon) who must defeat her powerful, evil father in order to save herself and her siblings.” It was scripted by Jim Cirile and Tanya C. Klein (Liberator), and directed by Jason Axinn (Bite Me).

Baccarin will lend her voice to the role of Gamemaster, “an otherworldly entity who entraps hapless humans into diabolical conflicts while her species gambles on the outcome.” The cast also includes Ray Wise (playing Cyrus, “the dying, wealthy and embittered industrialist who gathers his family, ostensibly to discuss his estate”) and Bill Moseley (as Cyrus’ deranged henchman, who is confident in his looks despite having been through a horrific, scarring accident).

The film’s Facebook page bills it as follows:

The world’s first full-on animated horror feature film, MALEVOLENT is a twisted, blood-soaked horror/sci-fi thriller a la SAW meets GROUNDHOG DAY.

Sounds like my kind of movie. Hopefully Baccarin will inject a little more life into her villainess role than she did into Talia al Ghul in DC Animated Universe entry Son of Batman. But even if she doesn’t, Malevolent has already given us the below poster, and that’s something to be thankful for. Coverage Ink Films plans to release Malevolent in 2015 – and I personally can’t wait to see it.
