Now that Swedish House Mafia is behind him (unfortunately), Steve Angello is working hard on his solo career. He’s currently putting together his debut album, Wild Youth (which releases this Fall), and tonight, he’s dropped the lead single.

“I’ve been working on it for almost the past two years,” the DJ told Rolling Stone in a new interview. “It’s been more like a self-discovery than just been going into the studio to satisfy consumers.”

Titled Wasted Love, the song features vocals from The Temper Trap’s Dougy Mandagi and is definitely a bit different than what we’re used to hearing from Angello, as it’s not exactly a full out dance track. In fact, it’s even got a bit of an indie vibe to it thanks to the guitar plucks, which work quite well actually. So far, I’m really digging it and I certainly think that it’s a step in the right direction for the DJ as he embarks on his solo career.

“We just wanted to have a song where our worlds collided a little bit, something that speaks to all of us,” Angello said of his collaboration with The Temper Trap singer, “so I wanted to create something that was different but also honored The Temper Trap style. I also wanted to find a great balance between dance and indie, and I kind of held back a lot just to create that moment where it’s about the melodies and the songs.”
