Kathryn Bigelow, director of The Hurt Locker, a film that won multiple Oscars as well as universal critical acclaim, has started putting together a cast for her next film. Her new film, Triple Frontiers, may already have Christian Bale attached and now Bigelow is going after Will Smith.

According to Ace Show Biz, the actor has been in talks with Bigelow and they are discussing a role for him in the film. Bigelow has also been talking to other A-list actors like Sean Penn and Javier Bardem.

With Bigelow behind the camera and a handful of A-list stars in front, Triple Frontier could easily be Oscar material. The title refers to the border zone between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay and the film will likely be an ensemble project that will fall into the action-adventure genre. Bigelow once again will team up with her writer from The Hurt Locker, Mark Boal.

Not much else is known about the film at this point but as more information comes out, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
