Tired of watching ElfThe Polar Express and It’s A Wonderful Life back-to-back every Christmas Eve? Voltage Pictures may have just the thing for you, with news that the studio is moving forward with a ludicrous action flick titled The Guns of Christmas Past and has brought Kevin Tancharoen on board to direct.

The movie, very loosely inspired by Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, centers on a retired hitman who finds himself in Chicago on Christmas Eve to avenge the death of a friend. That night, the hitman realizes that he must fight three unlikely adversaries from his past, present and future if he’s to avenge his friend’s death and find out who he really is in the process. Andrew Hilton, who also wrote upcoming flicks Bullet Run and The Lost Patrol, penned the script.

Honestly, that premise sounds just nutty enough to work. Typical Christmas movies are filled with good cheer and family-friendly adventures, but Die Hard has more than proven that it’s possible for a movie to be both a kick-ass actioner and a perfect movie for the holiday season. Of course, I’m not presuming that The Guns of Christmas Past will even brush up against that action classic, but there’s no harm in looking forward to a movie so open and unabashed about its intentions.

Additionally, Tancharoen has some solid experience behind the camera. He’s coming off directing the second season of WB’s highly successful Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, and previously helmed both the Fame remake and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie. Though those last two projects certainly aren’t in line with an action-thriller, they did rely heavily on Tancharoen being able to fluidly manipulate the camera to catch complicated dance moves involving crowds of people – a trick that should come in handy as he directs The Guns of Christmas Past‘s sure-to-be-ridiculous action sequences.

No date has yet been set for this flick, but doesn’t anything other than December of 2015 just seem wrong to you?
