After being officially revealed at E3 2014 back in June, Square Enix announced today that Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will blast onto digital shelves in December.

Developed by Crystal Dynamics, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which was released back in 2010. Unlike the mainline series, though, this iteration of the Tomb Raider franchise is a top-down dungeon crawler that has a heavy focus on teamwork.

This time around, Lara Croft is teaming up with rival treasure hunter Carter Bell and resurrected Egyptian gods Horus and Isis in order to stop the ancient evil known as Set. In order to accomplish this, the foursome must battle their way through a variety of baddies in search of the scattered pieces of Osiris. As you probably assumed, the title will support four player co-op, through either local or online play.

As a fan of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, I’m excited to see that Square Enix isn’t abandoning the dungeon crawler formula in the wake of the successful reboot of the franchise in 2013. With Rise Of The Tomb Raider not scheduled for release until 2015, this should serve as a wonderful stop-gap until then.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will hit the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on December 9. We will continue to bring you the latest updates regarding Ms. Croft’s exploits until then.
