Respawn has announced the fifth title update for Titanfall, which is set to introduce an all-new Black Market feature into the multiplayer shooter along with Burn Cards and insignias to spruce up your gargantuan partner in crime.
Taking to the game’s official blog, the studio touched upon the various additions. First up, the Black Market itself will unlock at level 11 in tandem with a player’s first foray into the Burn Card menu. Speaking of which, those coveted Burn Card packs, which contain a whole host of stat-boosting features, can be purchased using in-game currency.
However, in the interest of balance and fairness, Respawn also reaffirmed its stance on microtransactions, which won’t want their way into Titanfall’s mechanised set-up anytime soon.
“We have stated several times that Titanfall will not have micro-transactions. Fear not, for we plan to keep that promise – NO MICROTRANSACTIONS! The only way to get Credits is by playing the game!”
In kicking real-world money to the curb, Titanfall players will only be able to earn credits by winning matches and competing in the game’s daily challenges. Beyond that, those users who have reached level 50 will see a portion of their experience converted into credits automatically.
In truth, Titanfall’s Black Market feature is an incentive similar to that found in EA’s streamlined and lucratively successful, FIFA Ultimate Team. Whether Respawn’s latest addition will instil a sense of longevity into the game’s multiplayer component remains to be seen, but with the game’s second DLC pack — Frontier Edge — poised to release next week, the Black Market will certainly be a welcome addition.
Though it’s without a formal release date at this time, Respawn hinted that the Black Market feature will see further improvements in the weeks after launch, which we expect to be alongside the Frontier Edge DLC on July 31st.
