Fans have been wanting to see Luke Cage a.k.a. Power Man make his way to the Marvel cinematic universe for quite some time now, and will finally get their wish when the Marvel Netflix shows start arriving in 2015. Daredevil is first, followed by Jessica Jones and Iron Fist, but Luke Cage is getting his own series as well, and will be part of the TV team-up event The Defenders.

We’ve heard several actors express their interest in playing Cage, from Idris Elba, Isaiah Mustafa, Dwayne Johnson, Terry Crews, and Mars Crain. Now, another has tossed his hat into the ring: The Best Man and Chicago alum Taye Diggs.

Diggs recently appeared on the Conan O’Brien Show, and said that he would like to play Cage if given the opportunity:

“Luke Cage. You ever heard of that? I’ve always liked that.  Just you know, growing up a poor black boy, you gravitate to the black superheroes. And that’s why I really loved Django Unchained. Growing up, you never got to see the black dude shoot up the white people and ride away. You never got to see that. He’s always the buddy or the dude giving his life away.

I want to thank Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino for making that movie, because little boys that were like me have something to aspire to. I mean not that I’m telling them to kill a bunch of white people. [Laughing] Don’t kill a bunch of white people.”

It may be some time before we see casting information for Luke Cage, but it’s still cool to hear actors express their interest in the role. The Marvel universe (and superhero genre) could use a bit more diversity, and a character like Luke Cage would be a welcome addition. Plus, Diggs is married to Frozen star Idina Menzel, so he definitely has a foot in the door at Disney… maybe he could have his wife put in a good word for him?

Tell us, could you see Diggs as Luke Cage? Or do you have someone else in mind? Let us know in the comments.
