MTV announced during the Teen Wolf panel, this past Friday at Comic-Con, that the hit supernatural drama series would be retuning for a fifth season. The network made a similar announcement prior to season four at the New York Comic-Con convention, and the method of delivery is still a big hit with the fans.

Teen Wolf has gone through a few variations of programming models since its first season premiered in 2011. The first two seasons were both 12 episodes long which ran continuously over three months. MTV switched it up quite a bit with season three with a whopping 24-episode order. The season was split in half – later dubbed season 3a and 3b – the first half running over the summer months and the second half running January through March. Season four, currently on the air, reverted back to the original 12-episodes time frame. But, Teen Wolf will be mixing it up once again for season five with 20 episodes. Once again, the season will be split in half.

The show has had a lot of success so far, so it should come as no big surprise that the network has decided to continue its run. After Crystal Reed, one of the main characters, exited the series at the end of last season, the show has undergone a slight face lift. This season of Teen Wolf has focused on taking the material back to an elemental level and reintroducing some of the original concepts of the show – including lacrosse, turning an unsuspecting teen into a werewolf, and the return of a character who was supposed to be dead.
