It’s that time of the month again, as Sony announced today which titles will be joining the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection in August. As always, these titles will become free for PlayStation Plus subscribers on the first Tuesday of the month.

Leading things off for the PlayStation 4 is indie dungeon crawler Road Not Taken. Coming from the team at SpryFox, Road Not Taken places gamers into the role of a ranger adventuring through the forest in search of lost children. Each level in the game is procedurally generated, which means that no two experiences will be the same. Fez, Phil Fish’s unique 2D platformer, will be the second title available for PS4 owners to download.

PlayStation 3 owners receive arguably the biggest title of the month, as EA and Crytek’s shooter Crysis 3 comes to the Instant Game Collection in August. The title received solid reviews back when it launched in 2013 and is considered to be one of the more graphically impressive titles to hit the previous console generation. The second game coming to the PS3 next month is just a tad different, as exploration sim Proteus rounds out the system’s offerings.

Last, but certainly not least, Sony’s PlayStation Vita selections for the month feature two intriguing titles. Multiplayer hack and slasher Dragon’s Crown leads the way for the system this month, as the game’s slick mechanics and gorgeous visuals wowed critics. Digital Dreams’ explorer Metrico will also be available for download in August.

Three of August’s additions to the Instant Game Collection will also support Sony’s cross-buy program. Proteus and Dragon’s Crown will be available for download on both the PS3 and PS Vita, while Fez will be available for all three major Sony consoles.

Despite the public outcry for more retail titles to be available through the Instant Game Collection, I think this is another solid month of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. I greatly enjoyed both Fez and Crysis 3 back when they were first released, and I’m looking forward to trying out Road Not Taken, which I have been following since its debut.
