Lorde To Curate, Contribute To The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 Soundtrack

Even if the movies themselves are nothing special, YA adaptations always seem to have the best soundtracks. The best part of every Twilight film was looking at the accompanying albums to uncover some real gems (artists included The Black Keys, Broken Bells, Muse, The Bravery, Sia and St. Vincent, to name a few of many), while the Divergent soundtrack offered some great Ellie Goulding tracks.

The Hunger Games franchise, too, has been pretty stellar in terms of its musical stylings to date. The first film featured a rocking Kid Cudi song called “The Ruler and the Killer” in addition to some Arcade Fire and Taylor Swift, while Catching Fire incorporated Coldplay and The National for a more epic feel. Now, we’re hearing that the featured artist on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack will be none other than “Royals” breakout Lorde.

The Grammy-winning artist will hand-pick each and every song for the soundtrack, in addition to providing the first single. Though, as is custom with these albums, most of the music won’t be heard in the actual movie, the goal of the soundtrack will be to establish a certain atmosphere in keeping with the tone of the film. Director Francis Lawrence recently spoke about Lorde’s involvement, stating:

“I sat down with Lorde on the set of ‘Mockingjay’ this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film.”

This won’t be Lorde’s first foray into The Hunger Games universe. The chanteuse contributed “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” a grandiose cover of the 1985 Tears for Fears hit, to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack.

Republic Records will release the album this fall. It will likely be a nifty collection of indie tunes, though probably one with a more foreboding and dramatic bent, given the tense nature of the film it ties into. As for that, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens November 21st.
