Assassin’s Creed Rogue Officially Revealed By Ubisoft

After being rumored months ago, Ubisoft has officially confirmed that a new entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise will exclusively hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year. Dubbed Assassin’s Creed Rogue, the latest entry in the series was revealed via a leaked video earlier today.

Set in the 18th century during the Seven Years War, Rogue once again returns the franchise to North America, finishing up the saga that started with Assassin’s Creed III. This isn’t your traditional entry in the series, however, as instead of playing as another member of the Assassins, you will instead step into the shoes of a Templar hunter.

After being betrayed by his brothers in the wake of an Assassin’s Brotherhood mission gone wrong, Shay Patrick Cormac joins up with the Templars. This sets him on a path of vengeance that will see Cormac hunting down and eliminating various members of the Assassin Brotherhood. Ubisoft is promising that Assassin’s Creed Rogue will be “the darkest chapter in the franchise” so far.

Over the course of his mission, Cormac will travel throughout the country, including to locations such as a frozen North Atlantic Ocean and a growing New York City. Due to his Templar association, Cormac will have access to never-before-seen weapons and a brand new ship, The Morrigan, which brings about the return of naval gameplay.

Development on Assassin’s Creed Rogue is being spearheaded by Ubisoft Sofia, with additional assistance being provided by Ubisoft’s Singapore, Montreal, Quebec, Chengdu, Milan and Bucharest studios. The team at Sofia are certainly no strangers to the franchise, though, as they were responsible for Assassin’s Creed: Liberation and provided assistance on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Is it odd to say that I’m a tad more interested in this than Assassin’s Creed Unity? Unity looks fine, mind you, but the idea of playing as a Templar is a much more interesting idea to me than another go around as a member of the Assassin Brotherhood. It’s just unfortunate that the title is being relegated to last-gen consoles.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue is expected to launch on November 11, two weeks after the release of Unity, exclusively for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
