One of the biggest Emmy snubs this year was Matthew Rhys from the Best Leading Actor in a Drama Series category. His equally chilling and compelling turn as KGB agent Philip Jennings on The Americans was the high point of the show’s second season. However, he was passed over due to a packed TV landscape (and the inclusion of two True Detective actors in that category). Regardless, those looking to see Rhys scowl and seduce even more are in luck, as the actor is now attached to an untitled culinary film from director John Wells starring Bradley Cooper.
Matthew Rhys will play a character named – get this – Reece. (It is no wonder he got the part – perhaps it was written with the Brothers and Sisters star in mind.) Reece is a rival chef of Cooper’s Adam Jones. In the film, Jones is a two Michelin star chef in Paris whose creative pedigree is often undermined by his explosive, diva-like personality.
The untitled drama comes on the wave of a pretty big summer for foodie films. Today, for instance, sees the release of The Hundred-Foot Journey, which is about chefs in France competing for Michelin stars. Stephen Knight, the director of Locke who penned The Hundred-Foot Journey, wrote the screenplay for this untitled John Wells project.
The Weinstein Company is producing the Wells-directed film, which also boasts a cast including Uma Thurman, Sienna Miller, Daniel Bruhl, Emma Thompson, Lily James, Omar Sy and Jamie Dornan. It was originally titled Chef, but due to Jon Favreau’s comedy of the same name and topic, the film changed its moniker to Adam Jones. Recently, it was altered to Untitled John Wells Project, at least until the studio can think of something better.
