Sinister 2 Locks In Shannyn Sossamon, James Ransone For Lead Roles

In an interesting turn of events, it's been revealed that the male lead for the upcoming Sinister 2, on which Ciaran Foy (Citadel) is taking the reins from first film director Scott Derrickson, is none other than James Ransone, who had a supporting role in Sinister. It had previously been thought that his concerned sheriff's deputy would be returning for a small role, but now it's been confirmed that the character will be leading the pic.

In an interesting turn of events, it’s been revealed that the male lead for the upcoming Sinister 2, on which Ciaran Foy (Citadel) is taking the reins from first film director Scott Derrickson, is none other than James Ransone, who had a supporting role in Sinister. It had previously been thought that his concerned sheriff’s deputy would be returning for a small role, but now it’s been confirmed that the character will be leading the pic.

Additionally, Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale, the upcoming Wayward Pines) has been set for the lead female role of a protective mother who moves with her 9-year-old twin sons into a rural house that’s marked for death.

There had been a great deal of uncertainty as to how the story of Sinister would be continued in a sequel. Though the first film was a box office success, it ended on a decidedly final note, one which ensured the film’s star Ethan Hawke would not be coming back. Though we still don’t know exactly how Sinister 2 will work to transform the horror flick into a franchise, the description of Sossamon’s character is a pretty major hint. Of course, we also know that the demon Bughuul is coming back for the sequel, so my educated guess is that Sossamon’s character won’t end up too happy with her new digs.

Derrickson once again wrote the script for Sinister 2 with his Sinister collaborator Robert C. Cargill, though commitments to Deliver Us From Evil and Doctor Strange prevented him from sitting behind the camera on the follow-up.

The sequel arrives in theaters next summer, on August 21st, 2015.
