Simon Pegg And Edgar Wright Are Working On A New Project

After Edgar Wright was dropped from Ant-Man, a sense of ineffable sadness spread among the geek community. So, it is nice to see that he has picked up the pieces and carried on with several new film projects, including one with his old friend Simon Pegg.

Pegg recently discussed this new project with the BBC (via Collider), and while he’s not letting any concrete details fall just yet, it does seem clear that he and Wright are hard at work:

When we said the trilogy was over, it was because that group of films was over. They’re all kind of related with each other and deal with a specific idea. There’s a criteria to those films…The next thing we do won’t do that, it will just be something else. It will happen. We made three films in ten years and hopefully in the next decade we’ll make another three…I really love working with those guys and I wouldn’t ever not want to work with them. It’s not even a question.

So any fear that Pegg and Wright were done with each other following The World’s End has now been successfully dispelled. What’s more, Pegg talking about “those guys” seems to indicate that Nick Frost will be involved in this new project as well. All is as it should be, as far as I’m concerned.

It might be awhile before we see the next Wright/Pegg/Frost collaboration, however. Wright has his plate full right now. His next film will be an action movie called Baby Driver, followed closely by Grasshopper Jungle, a film based on a young adult novel. It’s a coming-of-age story that includes raging hormones and gigantic praying mantises. Sounds about right for Wright, doesn’t it?

Simon Pegg meanwhile will next be seen in Hector and the Search for Happiness. He’s also got Mission: Impossible 5 and Star Trek 3 coming up – and those are only the films we know about. Knowing Pegg, he could very easily pop up in another indie comedy or five before getting around to working with Wright again.

Still, it is good to know that the pair are talking about a new project and that they have every intention of making something new within the next few years. Quite honestly, I would rather see another Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright film than Ant-Man anyways.
