Ridley Scott Will Probably Direct Blade Runner 2 After The Martian

Ridley Scott is keeping quite active for a man in his 70s. He's currently gearing up to release his Biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, and is also starting to get ready for production on The Martian (which begins shooting in November), his sci-fi film with Matt Damon. The prolific filmmaker doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon, either, as he recently told Entertainment Weekly that after The Martian, he'll move on to Blade Runner 2.

Ridley Scott is keeping quite active for a man in his 70s. He’s currently gearing up to release his Biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, and is also starting to get ready for production on The Martian (which begins shooting in November), his sci-fi film with Matt Damon. The prolific filmmaker doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon, either, as he recently told Entertainment Weekly that after The Martian, he’ll move on to Blade Runner 2.

According to Scott, the film has a completed script and it’s “damn good” :

“[Blade Runner 2] is written and it’s damn good. Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years—despite the accident. So yes, that will happen.”

Now, Ford hasn’t confirmed his involvement in the sequel just yet, and hasn’t seemed to eager to do it, so whether he’ll actually climb on board or not is still up in the air. Scott seems confident about Ford being involved though, so perhaps he knows something that we don’t?

As for the director’s other huge franchise that is currently awaiting a sequel, Prometheus, it unfortunately looks like we’re still a ways away from seeing a follow-up to that. When asked when things would get moving on a Prometheus 2, the director said, “That’s the problem. I’ve got a lot of ducks in a row. But they’re all written.”

While it’s good to know that a script is in place, that doesn’t mean very much if the film is still without a director. I can’t imagine that 20th Century Fox would want to wait for Scott to finish up everything else that’s on his plate though and I wouldn’t be surprised if they decide to move forward with someone else at the helm.

Tell us, who do you want to see direct Prometheus 2 if Scott can’t do it? And are you hopeful that Ford will return for Blade Runner 2? Sound off below!
