Publisher Deep Silver confirmed today that Escape Dead Island, a third-person spin-off of the popular franchise, will launch on November 18. Handling development duties this time around is Fatshark, who are best known for Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 and Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West.

Focusing more on storytelling and mystery, Escape Dead Island looks to be a completely different experience than the previous two entries in the series. In this outing, players will step into the shoes of Cliff Calo, a young man who has set out to document the events that took place on the island of Banoi. As he battles his own mental demons, it will be up to Cliff to figure out what exactly caused the zombie outbreak.

In addition to the release date, Deep Silver also confirmed that those who pre-order Escape Dead Island will automatically receive access to the upcoming Dead Island 2 beta. This promotion will be open to both U.S. and UK gamers, and will be available exclusively through GameStop in the United States.

While I’m not the the biggest fan of the Dead Island franchise, I have to say that I’m cautiously interested in this entry. After all, my displeasure in the series never had to do with the setting or plot, but rather the gameplay itself. So, with this entry going in a completely different direction, hopefully I can truly sink my teeth into the series for the first time.

Escape Dead Island will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC when it launches in November.
