Earlier today, we reported that Sin City‘s Devon Aoki had left Arrow and had been replaced by The Wolverine actress Rila Fukushima in the role of Tatsu Yamashiro a.k.a. Katana. Now, we have a new bit of castingto announce, as THR reports that Glee and Awkward alum Nolan Funk has signed on to be a guest star.

Funk will make his debut in Arrow‘s fifth episode, titled “The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak.” Details about his role are sparse, though we know he’ll play Felicity’s former hacker boyfriend from her days at MIT. Whether or not he’ll show up in flashbacks or make his way to Starling City in the present day remain to be seen.

Funk is the second actor to be cast as a figure from Felicty’s past, as NYPD Blue actress Charlotte Ross signed on to play her mother earlier this month. Her role has been kept a secret as well, meaning there may be more to Felicity’s backstory than we thought.

All will be revealed when Arrow‘s third season premieres on Wednesday October 8th, 2014.
