2014 isn’t even over yet and already all eyes in the cinema world are focused on summer 2016. Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice continues to snag most of the attention, with Marvel’s Captain America 3 a close second. But wait – there’s another dark horse in the running that’s been suspiciously quiet of late – X-Men: Apocalypse. Until today that is, when it was revealed that the mutant sequel will shoot in Montreal.

Internet chatter about the follow-up to this summer’s smash hit, X-Men: Days of Future Past, has been full of speculation. But at least now we’ve got another shred of info. Shooting is set to commence in April 2015, at the same backlot DoFP used – Mel’s Studio.

Besides today’s announcement, there have been few official confirmations about the project. We know that Simon Kinberg, Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris are hard at work on a script, and that Bryan Singer might return, but that’s about it.

Kinberg and Singer’s comments on what the film will include have yet to be made official, but apparently it’ll have an 80s locale and we’d wager on the First Class cast making a triumphant return to centre stage. That being said, some of the original cast (Wolvie, Prof X, Storm? Heck, Jean Grey maybe?) will probably make appearances as well. Alongside uber-villain, Apocalypse, of course.

X-Men: Apocalypse will open in theatres on May 27, 2016.
