Deadline is reporting today that Universal Pictures is in talks with Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass to make another Bourne film. While I kind of expected this to happen, given that it’s been rumored for a while, it’s still a nice surprise. Greengrass had said several times in the past that he was done with the series, and Damon always said that he wouldn’t do another film unless the acclaimed director was involved, so it’s great to see that they were able to figure it all out and get together again for another entry.
Of course, plot details are non-existent, but Deadline is telling us that the studio is eager to push this one into production and hopes to have it in theatres for July 16, 2016. This means that it will release before the next entry in The Bourne Legacy series, which was a spinoff that starred Jeremy Renner. Now, Universal will have both series to play around with and given that they both take place in the same universe, it’s easy to see what the studio is trying to do here.
While I personally didn’t care much for The Bourne Legacy, I do love the Matt Damon Bourne films and am very happy to hear that Universal was able to bring both him and Greengrass back for another outing. The original Bourne trilogy is a shining example of the action genre at its best and I can’t wait to see what Damon and Greengrass have in store for us with the next instalment.
Tell us, are you as excited as we are to hear that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass will be making another Bourne movie together? Sound off below!
