Hoyte van Hoytema, the award-winning cinematographer behind critically-acclaimed films such as The Fighter and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, has been tapped to fill the shoes of Roger Deakins for Sam Mendes’ upcoming and as-yet-untitled sequel, Bond 24.

Interestingly, this news marks the third time that Dutch-Swedish maestro has replaced an existing cinematographer on a project, after swopping in to replace Lance Acord and Wally Pfister for Her and Nolan’s sci-fi adventure Interstellar, respectively.

Von Hoytema started turning heads in Hollywood following his astute work on the excellent Swedish vampire horror, Let The Right One In. Since then, he’s collaborated with a variety of directors in the last six years which primarily had him work with film — Her notwithstanding, which shot on digital.

Speaking of which, HitFix is also reporting that Bond 24 will revert back to film whereas Skyfall stuck to digital. In fact, given that Von Hoytema is currently working alongside Nolan — one of the industry’s leading advocates of celluloid — for Interstellar, it’s logical that Mendes and his creative team will switch to the age-old format.

Earlier this week, we learned that Bond 24 is to begin filming in December, with Daniel Craig set to reprise his role as 007 for the fourth time. Joining Mr. Bond on the casting sheet are Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw as Q.

As you can see, the film still has a considerable amount of roles to fill before the cameras start rolling. Chief among these vacant slots is, of course, the title’s villain, with Mendes claiming that he wants a physically imposing henchman to put 007 through his paces.

Bond 24 is scheduled to release October 24, 2015 in the UK and November 6, 2015 in the US.
