The status of Warner Bros.’ upcoming political comedy-drama, Our Brand Is Crisis, is heating up. Developed in conjunction with Smokehouse Pictures, the feature has been building up momentum in recent weeks. It was nearly a year ago that Sandra Bullock became attached to star, with Prince Avalanche director David Gordon Green on board to direct. Who else is in the running for this cunning political expose? The Drop actress Ann Dowd, that’s who.

After rounding out the first season of HBO’s brilliant post-apocalyptic drama, The Leftovers, and a turn on Showtime’s Masters Of Sex, Dowd has signed on to join what’s becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest properties. Earlier this week, Anthony Mackie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) stepped up to play an as-yet undisclosed role, and Billy Bob Thornton’s name has been tossed into the rumour ring as well. The report from Variety also confirms the rumour that Scoot McNairy (Touchy Feely) is linked to the project, but alas, no details on his character.  While it’s unknown who Dowd will play, we do know the Bullock will portray consultant Jane Bodine for the flick, which is currently shooting in New Orleans.

A remake of the 2005 documentary, Our Brand Is Crisis delves into the activities of American political strategists. In particular, a group of Washington consultants who were involved in the election of the Bolivian president will come under scrutiny. The film, much like Rachel Boynton’s thrilling documentary, explores the consequences of idealistic approaches to democracy. Hopefully the success of the movie will shed a light on Boynton’s original piece.

Our Brand Is Crisis is in production with no release date as yet.
