It is being reported today that Ethan Hawke is to make a cameo in the upcoming remake of Paul Verhoeven‘s Total Recall. Already attached to star are Colin Farrell as Doug Quaid and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) as villain Vilos Cohaagen.

While Hawke’s role is a secret at this point, we do know that Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel are currently in talks to play the roles of Lori (originally played by Sharon Stone) and Melina (originally played by Rachel Ticotin).

Not much has been seen of Hawke lately. His last two big releases were the interesting vampire thriller Daybreakers and the forgettable cop drama Brooklyn’s Finest. However, he does have a few upcoming credits listed on his IMDB page including a project with director/writer Richard Linklater.

The film is being directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld) with a screenplay by Mark Bomback (Unstoppable), James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), and Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium). The story “involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side.” Cranston’s character is “the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai.”

The film is set to begin production in Toronto in June and is due to be released August 3rd, 2012.
