Lost Producer Carlton Cuse Says A Return To The Island Is “Inevitable”

We have to go back. Those words uttered by Lost's troubled doc, Jack, could be adopt a whole new meaning in light of a recent interview with the show's creator, Carlton Cuse. It's been ten years since the sci-fi adventure mystery hit our TV screens and four since it wrapped up proceedings. The final season left some fans dissatisfied. I'm a huge fan of the show, and wasn't at all disappointed in the flash-sideways approach it took for its swansong season. The tangled mess weaved by the passengers of Oceanic 815 kept me hooked, and eager for more inexplicable mysteries. But is that at all likely?

We have to go back. Those words uttered by Lost‘s troubled doc, Jack, could adopt a whole new meaning in light of a recent interview with the show’s creator, Carlton Cuse.

It’s been ten years since the sci-fi adventure mystery hit our TV screens and four since it wrapped up proceedings. Though the finale was controversial, I wasn’t at all disappointed in the flash-sideways approach it took for its swansong season. The tangled mess weaved by the passengers of Oceanic 815 kept me hooked, and eager for more inexplicable mysteries. But is that at all likely?

Speaking to Digital Spy, Cuse offered his thoughts on the potential future of the TV megahit:

“Disney owns the franchise, it made them a lot of money, it’s hard to imagine it will just sit there idly forever,” he said, before revealing the breadth of his involvement. “Damon [Lindelof] and I told our story in that world and I assume someone will come along, hopefully having been inspired by our story, or our version of the story, and want to tell their own story,” he continued.

“It’s like the ‘Narnia’ chronicles. There are seven books, they were all written by CS Lewis, but they all visit ‘Narnia’ at different times and different configurations and different ways. Someone is going to come up with a way to tell another ‘Lost’ story. I think it’s inevitable. I don’t know what it is or how it would work, but I can’t imagine something else won’t be done with the franchise.”

That’s not to say Cuse has left his Lost connections in the past. He’ll be reuniting with one of the show’s stars, Josh Holloway (who played the brilliant Sawyer), for a new serial that’s set up over at the USA Network. The premise of Colony follows Holloway’s ex- FBI special agent, who must protect his family when a foreign occupation hits Los Angeles.
