Though writer-director J.C. Chandor’s attention is currently occupied by A Most Violent Year, his buzzy period drama (out in limited release this December) which could be one of this year’s major awards players if it connects with Academy voters, Summit Entertainment has already turned its gaze forward, to thinking about the director’s next effort. Yesterday, the studio dated Chandor’s Deepwater Horizon for September 30th, 2016.

Some may think that September is too early in the awards season to give Deepwater Horizon, based on the true story of an oil rig crew in the Gulf of Mexico attempting to prevent disaster after an on-rig explosion, a fighting chance, but past years have seen major Oscar players like Argo and The Social Network arrive around that time. The story certainly seems exciting enough, and particularly with Mark Wahlberg circling the main role, the project’s prospects appear positively rosy. Production is due to kick off next year.

Check out the official synopsis below:

Based on the true events that occurred on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, the story chronicles the courage of those who worked on the Deepwater Horizon and the extreme moments of bravery and survival in the face of what would become one of the biggest man-made disasters in world history.

Recently, New Line also moved the Vacation remake, which will star Ed Helms and Christina Applegate, to October 9th, 2015.

Horrible Bosses scribes Jonathan Gordenstein and John Francis Daley are making their directorial debuts on the pic, which will chart a family man (Helms) who brings his wife (Applegate) and kids (Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins) on an eventful, cross-country journey to Walley World. Helms is taking on the Chevy Chase part, and Applegate is in the role originated by Beverly D’Angelo (both original stars are expected to appear in small roles this time around). The supporting cast is rounded out by Leslie Mann, Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day.

Finally, a smaller project with a lot of potential, A Little Chaos, has been dated for March 27th, 2015. Kate Winslet, Stanley Tucci, Alan Rickman and Matthias Schoenaerts all star in the film, which Rickman directed.

Here’s the synopsis:

A landscape gardener with a taste for the unconventional is invited to design one of the fountains at the Palace of Versailles. As she battles with the weather, the perilous rivalries at the court of Louis XIV and her own private demons, she finds herself drawn closer to the formality and enigma of the architect who hired her.
