Sony Wants To Give Robin Hood The Marvel Treatment With A Series Of Team-Up Movies

Stealing from the rich and giving to the poor is one thing, but for Sony’s latest and (potentially) greatest plan for Robin Hood — cinema’s favorite sharpshooting outlaw — the studio is pitching plans to bring the legendary archer back to the screen once more for a series of team-up movies.

Essentially, the nascent project — simply titled, “Hood” — has been likened to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, and Sony is currently looking to transition the lucrative business model away from the superhero genre and assimilate it into the Middle Ages.

The pitch comes by way of Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott, who managed to force the issue and help Sony secure a seven-figure deal for Hood. As the description suggests, the shared, Avengers-esque universe would unite Little John, Will Scarlett, Friar Tuck and of course, Robin Hood himself for some heist-styled action with a tone that’s said to tread the line “between Mission: Impossible and Fast & Furious.”

As outlandish as that sounds on paper, with the right filmmakers and cast members on board, there’s no reason that a team-up movie set in the Middle Ages couldn’t be a success. I mean, now that Marvel, DC, Fox, and Sony Pictures have sent the notion of a superhero team-up movie careering past the point of saturation, an ensemble piece rooted in a medieval setting could prove a welcome tonic.

After all, it’s no wonder other companies are scurrying to replicate the trailblazing success of the interconnected MCU — a cinematic beast that shows no sign of slowing down.

But what do you think of this proposal from Sony? Can you imagine Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men having the same staying power as some of Marvel and DC’s iconic heroes? Let us know in the comments section below.
