After donning tusks for Kevin Smith, Justin Long is back in the saddle – but this time he won’t be morphing into anyone or anything else. For Richard Gray’s indie thriller The Lookalike, that responsibility lands firmly on Gillian Jacobs’ shoulders.
In what sounds like a brilliant matrix of character, plot and nuttiness, the story follows a couple of gangsters (Jerry O’Connell and John Corbett) who are keen for a deal to go through with crime boss, William Spinks. When the object of his desire, Sadie, is killed, his goons enlist an aspiring actress (Jacobs) via an addict (Long) to fool Spinks and ensure the masterplan goes off without a hitch. Also along for the ride are Scottie Thompson, Gina Gershon, Luiz Guzman and Steven Bauer.
Judging by that synopsis alone, the flick has all the makings of a cult classic right off the bat. As is often the case with small time thugs and crooks in cinema – the more people are involved in a technical plan, the more there is that can go wrong. Which is why these types of crime capers are always such a pleasure to watch.
The first trailer (courtesy of JoBlo) offers a glimpse into a series of twisty turny shenanigans, that looks set to be a lot of fun. Elsewhere, a couple of clips have landed (courtesy of The Playlist), expanding on Jacobs’ actress and Corbett’s goon. I’ve not heard a lot previously about the movie, but you can consider me very interested after scoping out these three new videos on offer.
