After delivering last year’s most darkly hilarious and twisted revenge tale with Big Bad Wolves, Israeli filmmakers Navot Papushado and Aharon Keshales have been set to write and direct a remake of the Hong Kong-French revenge thriller Vengeance for Sony Pictures.

The 2009 original, directed by Johnnie To, centers on a French chef who embarks down a dark and bloody path of revenge after a violent attack on his daughter’s Hong Kong-based family leaves her husband and two children dead. In order to track down and exact his vengeance, the chef enlists the help of three hitmen with ties to the local mafia.

Remaking Vengeance will be Papushado and Keshales’ first Hollywood gig. After Quentin Tarantino named Big Bad Wolves his favorite movie of 2013, perhaps it’s not surprising that more studios are taking notice of the two talented writer-directors. Personally, I’m expecting the Vengeance redo to be just one of many upcoming projects for the pair.

For more on the original film, you can check out its intense trailer below. I’ve also included the U.S. release trailer for Papushado and Keshales’ Big Bad Wolves, which is definitely worth a watch if you haven’t yet had the pleasure. It’s one of the most devilishly entertaining thrillers to come along in quite some time.
