The Script For The Next Halloween Sequel Is Nearly Complete

Michael Myers is set to rise from the dead, or a hidden storage locker, or wherever it actually is that he ventures to in between movies. 'Cause let's face it; he's never going to actually die. The quantity of sequels, reboots and rebooted sequels that John Carpenter's 1978 classic, Halloween, has spawned currently stands at a staggering nine. So it makes sense that there's another one still to come.

Michael Myers is set to rise from the dead, or a hidden storage locker, or wherever it actually is that he ventures to in between movies. ‘Cause let’s face it; he’s never going to actually die. The quantity of sequels, reboots and rebooted sequels that John Carpenter’s 1978 classic, Halloween, has spawned currently stands at a staggering nine. So it makes sense that there’s another one still to come.

During a small press conference after a special screening of the original film, Shock Till You Drop (via Cinema Blend) managed to grab a few tasty morsels of information surrounding the sequel. In attendance at the show was series producer Malek Akkad, who pretty much confirmed that the film is moving ahead:

“It’s been a joy to work with so many creative people – ten films,” Akkad said, touching the franchise’s legacy. “We’re working on eleven as we speak. We’re working on a script right now. A new draft – perfect timing – is supposed to hit the day before Halloween. Hopefully my Halloween night reading will be a good read.”

Where exactly will this new sequel venture? Well, in terms of the “original” run of films, that story was wrapped up in 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection which ended with Myers getting electrocuted by Busta Rhymes. For such an unstoppable killing machine, it was a lacklustre demise to say the least. Five years later and Rob Zombie rebooted the franchise by remaking the original, which he followed up two years later with another sequel. I was not a fan of his efforts in the slightest; I don’t want to see what made the monster angry, I just want to see it go berserk and cause havoc.

So, it’s fun to hear word that we are getting another outing, but the direction it’ll take is unknown. Earlier this year, The Weinstein Company shelved plans for a 3D reboot after bandying it around for eons, so we can assume Michael will remain 2D for the eleventh outing of Halloween. That’s the extent of our knowledge on Michael’s next romp, but fear not, we’ll be sure to keep you posted when any new info emerges.
