Elizabeth Banks will continue to bring her unique (see: slapsticky and funny as hell) brand of comedy to the small screen, and this time, it’s for her own show. Titled The Greater Good, ABC have picked up the series and are developing it into a single-camera comedy that the actress-director will executive produce and direct.

Banks will oversee production via her Brownstone Prods banner, along with 20th Century Fox TV, with scripting duties going to Arrested Development‘s Caroline Williams. It’s not yet known if Banks will also take a stint in front of the camera, but as she’s currently finishing up on her directorial debut Pitch Perfect 2, she might be rather enjoying time out of the spotlight. However, judging by the very brief logline we’ve got on the series and the fact that Williams is at the keys, I’d say she should definitely be involved:

The Greater Good is described as comedic X-Files, a relationship/workplace comedy set in the world of conspiracy theories.

This comparison, made by Deadline, is a winning recipe for a surefire hit. Plus, the woman in charge has considerable experience with successful single-camera comedies. Banks’s rise into the upper echelons of Hollywood’s finest comedians began on the big screen, with a series of supporting turns that pretty much stole the show, before she turned to television.

On the small screen, she’s absolutely nailed it time and time again, with her delivery and phenomenal comedy timing on 30 Rock, Modern Family and Scrubs. I truly hope that she appears on screen. But, even if she opts out, knowing she’s at the helm for The Greater Good means we should be in store for another cracking TV comedy.
