Speaking to Buzzfeed today, Marvel studio head Kevin Feige has confirmed that by the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the team of Avengers will bow out with an altered lineup.

“The Avengers films, ideally, in the grand plan are always big, giant linchpins. It’s like as it was in publishing, when each of the characters would go on their own adventures and then occasionally team up for a big, 12-issue mega-event. Then they would go back into their own comics, and be changed from whatever that event was. I envision the same thing occurring after this movie, because the [Avengers] roster is altered by the finale of this film.”

This feeds into earlier rumours that suggested The Avengers 3 will feature an entirely new assembly of characters. Counter into that the fact that Tony Stark will apparently retire his Iron suit forever by the film’s end, due to his guilt over the creation of Ultron. While it was assumed Robert Downey Jr. would be finishing out his obligations with The Avengers 3, now that we know he’s a major part of Captain America 3, this news could indeed indicate his absence in the third installment. And with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver joining the sequel, their involvement in this new Avengers assembly is likely more than just speculation.

Either way folks, we won’t have long to wait for official confirmation, as Marvel have a one-hour press conference scheduled for tomorrow. Will they confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange? Will they lay out plans for the latter stages of The Avengers? Fear not, as we’ll keep you posted on any new developments.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron opens on May 1st, 2015

Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time.
