Do you like your horror in easily digestible bite-sized pieces thrown together by a spooky wraparound story? That’s right, you got it, I’m referring to the horror genre’s latest trend – anthology franchises. As V/H/S and The ABC’s Of Death have proven, fans are happily gobbling up this new stylistic angle, and now there’s another one afoot. Deadline reports that the Epic Pictures Group are assembling a new anthology called Tales Of Halloween.
The report suggests that this new approach will enlist a great many horror maestros for the upcoming outing. The biggest names leading the pack are Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) and Darren Bousman (Saw), who’ll no doubt attract fans who may not be familiar with some of the lesser-known filmmakers. That’s inevitably one of the most promising aspects of this type of film; offering fledgling directors the opportunity to have their work seen by wider audiences.
Contributing vignettes alongside Marshall are Bousman are Joe Begos (Almost Human), Axelle Carolyn (Soulmate), Adam Gierasch (Night of the Demons), Andrew Kasch (Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy) and John Skipp (Stay at Home Dad), Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider!), Dave Parker (The Hills Run Red), Ryan Schifrin (Abominable), and Paul Solet (Grace).
It’s understood that Carolyn concocted the idea and brought it to the group of filmmakers, who dub themselves “The October Society.” Speaking out on the project, Marshall stated his excitement in moving forward with such a talented crew:
“It’s so great to be working with such a unique and talented group of directors. “Many of ‘The October Society’ have been friends for years, so when Axelle had the idea of combining our talents for an anthology based on our mutual love of Halloween and all things scary, it was a no-brainer.”
