Gal Gadot Declines Ben-Hur In Favour Of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Earlier this month we reported that Gal Gadot was in talks for a starring role in MGM's Ben-Hur remake. While we were STILL getting over the excitement that she'd be playing Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, the idea of her branching out into other blockbusters was promising for the actress. Alas, now it seems that her plan to dominate the big screen has led to a scheduling conflict.

Earlier this month, we reported that Gal Gadot was in talks for a starring role in MGM’s Ben-Hur remake. While we were STILL getting over the excitement that she’d be playing Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, the idea of her branching out into other blockbusters was promising for the actress. Alas, now it seems that her plan to dominate the big screen has led to a scheduling conflict.

Previously, Gadot had been in negotiations to tackle the lead female role of Esther, a slave who falls in love with Ben-Hur. The Timur Bekmambetov-directed remake of the 1959 epic is slated to begin production early next year in Europe, with a cracking ensemble already committed. So, why not Gadot? As things have turned out, her commitment to DC’s cinematic universe means she’s had to turn down the part. Here’s the rather intriguing quote directly from The Wrap, who broke the news:

“Those negotiations have ended and Gadot has passed on the project due to a scheduling conflict stemming from her commitment to WB’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and all that playing Wonder Woman entails, an individual close to the actress told TheWrap.”

“All that playing Wonder Woman entails” – what could this mean? I don’t want to speculate, as it could simply refer to the actress taking a much-deserved break, an extended shoot for BvS, OR that production on Wonder Woman is beginning sooner than expected. After all, the Amazonian’s solo outing, which is rumoured to be set in the 1920s, is currently scheduled for release in 2017. With that in mind, I suspect she’ll be preparing for her first standalone pic.

DC’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice opens in theatres on March 25th, 2016, followed by Wonder Woman on June 23rd, 2017. Ben-Hur is expected to open in theatres in February 2016.
