Set in a besieged city, This War of Mine does not star a group of elite soldiers, but rather focuses on a common group of civilians. Players will be tasked with scavenging for food and supplies and fending off hostile enemies all in the name of survival. The trailer does an excellent job of not only showing the harsh landscape players will have to wade through, but also the amount of threats it presents.

While the massive Call of Duty franchise continues to have the spotlight, this has been a pretty interesting year when it comes to video games depicting war. First there was Valiant Hearts: The Great War, which not only focused on World War I, but also did it from a variety of different perspectives. Now comes 11 Bit Studios’ latest effort, which promises a fresh take on the bleakness of war, if nothing else. Hopefully the gameplay can match its intriguing premise.

We will continue to have coverage of This War of Mine in the lead-up to its November release, so stay tuned.
