Evil Dead‘s Sam Raimi and Bob Tapert are reuniting with franchise rebooters Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues for yet another horror outing. Seemingly, the ‘idiotic teens in trouble’ sub-genre is still worth exploring, as they’re set to collaborate on A Man In the Dark.
Raimi and Tapert are known horror maestros as their original Evil Dead franchise went on to influence a generation of filmmakers. One of whom was Uruguayan helmer Fede Alvarez, who went on to direct and co-write the 2013 reboot with Sayagues. Their version put a fresh spin on the Necronomicon’s evil influence and went on to take over $100 million at the box office. Based on today’s news, the foursome look primed to repeat that success.
This time, Alvarez will direct and co-write the script once more with Sayagues, for a story about a group of robbing teens who’ve amassed a stolen fortune from meticulously-planned burglaries. When they devise a plan to steal from a wealthy blind man, they are met by a more than capable assailant who’ll do whatever it takes to wipe these kids out. With this calibre of talent behind the camera, we should expect a considerable amount of gore and insane jump scares from that premise.
Raimi and Tapert will produce the pic under their Ghost House Productions banner, with Good Universe heading up sales for the upcoming American Film Market. As horror is such a hot commodity right now, there’ll likely be a deal on the table in the next couple of weeks. Either way, we’ll keep you posted with any news that lands on A Man In The Dark.
