Brace yourselves, for there’s another film-to-TV reboot headed to the small screen! It’s been kicking around for some time, but Limitless has now landed a full production commitment at CBS. The news comes from THR, who report that the 2011 drug thriller will now carry on its story in the form of a TV sequel series.

Star of the original movie, Bradley Cooper, will not reprise his role, but instead executive produce with Todd Philips under their Yet To Be Named Co. banner. They’ll be joined by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman who are slated to executive produce through their K/O Paper Products shingle. Director of the 2011 feature, Neil Burger, will be back to helm the pilot episode.

Where exactly does the show intend to go? Well, according to THR, the sequel series will pick up “where the movie left off and follows Brian Sinclair as he discovers the power of the mysterious drug NZT, and is coerced into using his newfound drug-enhanced abilities for good.” Crafting the scripts for the show will Craig Sweeny, who’s found enormous success via his work on Elementary and Medium. He’ll also be producing alongside Orci and Kurtzman.

The original pic raked in $160 million worldwide and told the story of Sinclair (Cooper), a struggling writer who takes a drug that stretches his brain function and heightens his cognitive ability. It’s a similar premise to the one utilized in this summer’s Lucy; people only use a small percentage of their brain so imagine if we used all of it! It was an enjoyable movie, and it will be interesting to see it repackaged in a serial format.

Limitless joins countless other movies that are currently being developed for television, including Rush Hour, In Good Company, Big, Minority Report, Uncle Buck, Marley & Me, Problem Child, American Gigolo, In The Heat Of The Night, The Illusionist, Monster-In-Law… you get the picture.
