Though I’ve been excited for LittleBigPlanet 3 since its announcement during Sony’s E3 conference, one potential worry I’ve had for the game is backwards compatibility with both the unlockables and the DLC costumes and level expansions that the first two games contained. It looks like there’s no need to fret, though, as the PlayStation Blog recently confirmed that all previously purchased DLC, as well as your profile and published levels from the first two games, will carry over into the anticipated threequel.
Previously purchased costumes for the first two LittleBigPlanet games already carried over into later spinoffs like the PS Vita entry and LittleBigPlanet Karting, so the fact that players will be able to re-download them for the latest main entry isn’t too much of a shock. The same goes for user-created levels, as backwards compatibility with those was already confirmed months ago.
The blog entry also said that players will be able to import the numerous unlockable items built into the story mode from the first two games, which include costumes for series protagonist Sackboy and many different goodies used to make custom levels. It’s currently unclear how this will work for players making the jump from the PS3 to PS4, but it’s probably safe to assume that those who stick with the PS3 version will be able to make use of their local save files on their console.
LittleBigPlanet 3 will be available on both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4 on November 18. We will continue to keep you updated on the game as more news drops.
